The record that changed my life was a single from the Eagles "Take it Easy/Desperado".
Before that fateful end summer day 1998, I called a Philly Soul compilation (issued by a radio station here in Germany), the Beatles Sgt. Peppers CD, the Bee Gees soundtracks Stayin Alive and Saturday Night Fever, the Fame movie soundtrack, the Blues Brothers soundtrack, a Steve Miller best of (with recordings from 1973 onwards) and the double CD Elton John Greatest Hits my own. Not much music for a 18 year old at that time, and so sometimes I had the habit of combing through my fathers LP and single collection. One year before (1997) I searched through his collection and found Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" which I played a lot, but that record didn't make me go out and buy 800 Cd's and around 100 books about music like the "Take it Easy/Desperado" single did. I had heard Take it Easy on the radio before, but what blow me away got me goosebumps and hooked me for life was the acoustic intro, the heavenly harmonies, the sweet voice of Glenn Frey and the superb guitar/banjo solo from Bernie Leadon. The first thing I did was to go into town and buy a Eagles CD. The shop got only "The very best of" which costs 22 DM at that time and was ok. It had all their great hits and it was enough for the beginning. Because I liked the Eagles so much I bought all the records there were on (Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, etc.). So that got me started.
